LAS VEGAS (April 5, 2009) - Jack Beckman took one on the chin from his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Matt Hagan in the Funny Car quarterfinal round of the NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when the Rookie-of-the-Year frontrunner took him out in a close match-up.

After defeating Ashley Force Hood in the opening round with a 4.156-second elapsed time at 299.66 mph, Beckman lost lane choice to Hagan and was relegated to the less-favorable right lane.

Beckman launched first with a .087-of-a-second reaction time to Hagan's .109 (.000 is perfect) and was heading towards victory when a sharp move to the right at 660 feet caused the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge to get close to the wall. As Beckman worked the steering wheel to avoid a collision with the guard wall, Hagan drove by for the win. Beckman crossed the finish line with a 4.352/229.78 pass to Hagan's winning 4.215/298.73.

"It's very frustrating," said Beckman, "because a 4.23 would have won the race for us. And we have our good hot rod back. It dropped a cylinder on the right side, and, I tell you, I cannot turn that wheel any harder left than I did. And it was pushing right, pushing, right, pushing right. If I had stayed in it 10 more feet we would have scraped the wall. You lose the race when you do that and you lose more than that. So, there was not much alternative but to get out of it.

"It's just frustrating because it dropped a cylinder early and we're trying to figure out what caused that to happen. The Valvoline/MTS guys are looking at the data right now.

"All we can do is keep our chins up and go out and make some good runs in Atlanta and get a hone in on this because that was an absolute surprise to us. It hadn't done that at all this weekend. We'll figure it out."
Next up is the NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Ga., April 17-19.

LAS VEGAS (April 4, 2009) - Jack Beckman qualified No. 13 following three rounds of Funny Car qualifying for the NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Friday's second session was cancelled due to an earlier delay for rain and replacement of the Christmas Tree and eventually strong winds.

Beckman hopes his 13th starting position, based on his 4.202-second pass at 302.69 mph he set in the final session, will bring him some good luck as he is matched up against Ashley Force Hood in the opening round of eliminations, a repeat of last Sunday's Houston final round, which Force Hood won.

Beckman's other passes in the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge included a tire-smoking 7.505/82.88 on Friday (No. 14) and a 4.222/263.15 earlier today (No. 12).

"It wasn't what we thought it was going to be," he said of his final try. "I love the fact that right before we dropped the body to pull up to the starting line Johnny (West, crew chief) looked at me and gave me a wink.

"So we did have the Valvoline/MTS Dodge set on a stout run. And, I tell you, from 300 feet on it was a stout run. We're disappointed it wasn't quicker. The upside is we have two runs of data that we can lean on for tomorrow.

"If you qualify for this deal you can win this deal. And we have already proven that Sunday is our day. We may not be heroes Friday or Saturday, but we like to stand there with the trophy at the end of the day on Sunday, so we're cool."

} NHRA FLOPPERS EARN BOWLING BRAGGING RIGHTS OVER HOLESHOTS AND ELIMINATORS AT USBC OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAS VEGAS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAS VEGAS - The trio of NHRA teams who participated in the USBC Open Championships Thursday at the Cashman Center may not have challenged for the top score among all of the 17,200 teams that will compete in the marathon five-month tournament, however, for bragging rights in the pit area, there was an exciting battle, and as is typical in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing, there was a close finish.

The NHRA Floppers, led by the tandem of Auto Club Ford Mustang driver Robert Hight and Al-Anabi Racing Toyota Solara driver Del Worsham, squeezed out the victory among the three NHRA teams, posting a team total of 2,180. The NHRA Holeshots posted a late third game rally behind the smooth-rolling Jeg Coughlin, but came up a few pins short with an overall total of 2,154. Shawn Langdon paced the third-place NHRA Eliminators (1,979), and notched an overall high score of 528 among the 15 drivers who participated.

The drivers took time out of their busy schedules to participate in one of the world's oldest major competitions. The drivers will hit the track tomorrow for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Tickets are still available for the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event by calling (800) 644-4444. The race will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD.

"Bowling is a lot like a race car when you consider you have to make a lot of minor adjustments as you go and the lanes change just like a track will change," said Hight, who posted game scores of 165, 178 and 182 to lead his team. “It was a fun experience. The other NHRA teams were really good too. It went right down to the tenth frame of the last game."

JEGS.com Chevy driver Coughlin, who was a late addition to the Holeshots team after Tom Hammonds had to cancel due to a day full of travel delays, led a third game rally of 724 for the Pro Stock team with five strikes. Allen Johnson, a former Tennessee junior state champion and driver of the J&J Racing Team Mopar Dodge Stratus and current Pro Stock points leader Jason Line, driver of the Summit Racing Pontiac GXP, both chipped in with two strikes and scores of 145 in the third.

"I got progressively better each game," Coughlin said. "I have never bowled on a professional setup like this and it is very different and takes some time to get used to, but we had a blast. It is amazing what the USBC has put together here, it is such a tremendous undertaking. We really appreciate the opportunity to do this."

However Hight's third game total of 182 with three strikes and six spares was enough to give the Floppers the edge in the final tally.

"Just to tie this USBC Open Championships in with our drag race is cool," Hight said. "There were a lot of people in this tournament that said they came here for this tournament because of the NHRA race this weekend. There are a lot of bowlers that are drag racing fans.

Worsham garnered the best individual game score, as he knocked out 198 pins in the first of the three-game set with six strikes and a spare. He finished with games of 171 and 141 for a 510 total.

"I've never bowled in a tournament before," Worsham said. "It was fun. Bowling takes a lot of concentration and for drag racers who are used to racing in quick bursts, this was a little different. It was great to win among the three NHRA teams, and all of our guys contributed to that win. I was getting a little worried about the Pro Stock team because they started to come on there in the final game. I've bowled with most of the racers that were out here today so I know they are all good."

Dixie Choppers/Lucas Oil dragster driver Langdon, who consistently took out the pins with a powerful right-to-left curve on his ball, used a best of 189 in the second game, 172 in the third and 167 in the first to take the overall high scor

BAYTOWN, Texas (March 29, 2009) - "Fast" Jack Beckman reached his first final round of the season today at the NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park, the fourth event of the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, and ended up second to Ashley Force Hood.

Beckman, who had only two round wins under his belt in the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge for the season entering this weekend's event, can now add three more to his tally after first defeating Robert Hight in the opening round with a 4.954-second elapsed time at 246.80 mph, then Tim Wilkerson in the second round with a 4.172/298.01.

He continued his slaying of giants by taking out Tony Pedregon in the semifinal with another consistently quick 4.171/298.34.

The California native's winning swath concluded in the final, when, despite a mechanical glitch he and crew chief Johnny West thought would be their demise before they even launched, he posted a decent 4.227/303.43 pass only to be beaten by Force Hood's 4.122/306.19. Margin of victory: .1101 of a second.

"We're not quite sure what happened, but at the starting line it started spraying raw fuel out of the right side from the No. 6 pipe and we all kind of looked at each other with that same thought in our mind at the same time," explained Beckman. "We're figuring it's going to puddle fuel under the tire and we're dead. As soon as the thing moves and the rear tire gets in that fuel the run's over.

"So, I thought our only shot is for me to deep stage and maybe it can get her to red light. It didn't work, and they did a great job. And then our car cleaned up. I can't believe it went down the drag strip on that run.

"This is just what Denver was for us last year. We got back into a final round and we were a tear from that point on. We've got a hot rod back underneath us. We'll fix this. That was a real small glitch, and the Valvoline/MTS Dodge still ran a good number. Had I not been deep that would have been a 4.16.

"Ashley and her crew did an awesome job, but we're right back in this deal again, and we're going to win, and we're going to do it next week," he said with a smile.

Next up is the NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend, April 3-5.

NORTH HILLS, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2009) - Last year, Jack Beckman started off his NHRA Funny Car racing season with a victory at the second event of the year at Firebird International Raceway, then backed that up with two more victories to finish the season No. 3 in the standings.

This year, the driver of the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Service Dodge Funny Car returns to Firebird, located south of Phoenix, with the same goal, following his quarterfinal finish at the season-opening event in Pomona, Calif., two weeks ago.

"It's always fun to go back to a race as the previous event champion," said Beckman, eighth in the standings after one event in the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. "You usually get your name in the fan guide and in the program and the announcers talk about you a little bit more. So that's always cool.

"Last year, even though we did win Phoenix, we didn't really hit our stride until Denver. And there's no panic right now. We've had a couple of minor hiccups with the tune-up that I think we're close to getting worked out, but the way the Countdown format goes, you can take four or five races to work them out. I don't see anybody showing any signs of dominance this year, although I'm very thankful that my DSR teammate Ron Capps and the NAPA car are back to being one of the top cars again (Capps won the season-opener). That will be a lot of fun.

"I really think all three Schumacher Funny Cars (Beckman, Capps and Matt Hagan) are going to be challengers this year for the championship.

"I've done a lot of Sportsman racing at Firebird," added Beckman, the 2003 NHRA Super Comp champion in only his third full season of pro Funny Car competition. "I've also made a lot of passes there in testing, so I'm very comfortable at that race track. And it would be nice to get a win with the special Mail Terminal Services body on it and then we'll put the Valvoline-featured body back on it and go to Gainesville (Fla.) and try to win there."

Mail Terminal Services will continue its popular "Mail From Home" campaign in 2009, supporting the U.S. troops serving in the war zones. In the past two NHRA seasons the campaign has sent over 195,000 post cards overseas signed by fans and supporters at each NHRA national event with messages of support for the troops, along with numerous NHRA National Dragster issues and other automotive magazines. Photos of cars and drivers were also included.

In 2009 the "Mail From Home" program has been challenged to exceed the previous records of cards distributed (90,000 and 100,000, respectively) to hit a 120,000-card record.

JACK BECKMAN QUICK FACTS:
* No. 8 in 2009 Funny Car standings, after a quarterfinal finish in Pomona 1
* No. 3 in 2008 Funny Car point standings, with three victories-Phoenix, Reading, Concord-in seven final rounds
* His 2008 round win-loss record is 33-18
* Qualified No. 15 in Phoenix in '08. Won event over Robert Hight
* Was bumped out of the 2007 Countdown to Four playoffs standings at the Richmond, Va., event, after his teammates Gary Scelzi and Ron Capps reached the semifinal round. Ended the season No. 5 in points
* In his 65 national events in Top Fuel and Funny Car, he has won six times in 12 final rounds (all in Funny Car), and has a career round win-loss record of 70-54
* Is the 2007 U.S. Smokeless Showdown winner ($100,000 bonus event held at U.S. Nationals)
* Set national elapsed-time record of 4.662 seconds and national speed record of 333.66 mph

} MTS HITS RECORD 100,000 MARK in MAIL FROM HOME PROGRAM

Mail Terminal Services hits record 100,000 mark in Mail from Home program: The popular Mail from Home program instituted by Mail Terminal Services in 2007 as part of the company's support of the Vavoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car driven by Jack Beckman reached 100,000 cards as of this weekend, surpassing last year's 90,000 mark.

The Mail from Home program allows fans and competitors an opportunity to sign unique cards in the Don Schumacher Racing hospitality area and at a kiosk in the U.S. Army Racing Zone at NHRA national events with messages to the U.S. troops overseas, which are then distributed free to war-zone camps by MTS.

To help exceed last year's total, Mail Terminal Services held a competition among its 17 terminals around the U.S. to collect the highest number of cards. The Minneapolis terminal was determined the winner after the Richmond NHRA event and received the privilege of sending two representatives to the 2008 Las Vegas event for a four-day working vacation on MTS. They staffed the U.S. Army kiosk and watched the races and were treated to a stay at a casino hotel and a show.

"As far as reaching our goal, MTS has been very, very successful in all of the races in beating last year's records on cards," said Rodger Comstock, president and CEO of Mail Terminal Services. "At the last race in Vegas, we had the team from our Minneapolis terminal at the event. In Brainerd this year, the Minneapolis terminal had the highest card count for a single day of 2,000 and exceeded 5,000 for a weekend.

"This weekend in Pomona, we have the manager and his wife from our military terminal in Newark, N.J. That is the terminal that not only collects the cards during the year but actually sends them overseas. Each of our terminals has been higher in its productivity in producing the cards, but, looking at the overall picture and the support that the U.S. Army has given us in their kiosk and allowing us to have cards filled out there, along with the Schumacher hospitality area, has really pushed us over the top to set that record.

"We owe a debt of appreciation to the Army, to the whole U.S. Army race team, its sports marketing agency Momentum, and also to all of the MTS people who have worked so hard this year. It's a tribute to all of the 1,200 employees around the country who have been very successful at collecting the cards."

"We at Don Schumacher Racing are privileged to be a part of this wonderful program that Mail Terminal Services has introduced to our team and NHRA," said team owner Don Schumacher. "We heartily support MTS' efforts in this extremely rewarding endeavor."

} BECKMAN SUPPORTS TROOPS IN INDY
The popular and highly-successful Mail from Home program instituted by Mail Terminal Services in 2007 as part of the company's support of the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car driven by Jack Beckman will be featured on the car at the U.S. Nationals Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in honor of the U.S. troops overseas.

The Mail from Home program allows fans and competitors an opportunity to sign unique cards in the Don Schumacher Racing hospitality area and at a kiosk within the U.S. Army Racing Zone at NHRA national events with messages to the U.S. troops overseas, which are then distributed free to war-zone camps by MTS. The number of postcards distributed by MTS so far in 2008 is expected to exceed the 90,000 mark that was reached in 2007.

"It became evident starting in Denver (July 11-13) that the Mail from Home program was really gaining a lot of momentum," said MTS President and CEO Rodger Comstock. "And in Brainerd (Aug. 8-10) a new record of 1800 cards collected in one day was set, with an overall record of over 5000 cards for the weekend.

"I made the decision then that we would have a car at the U.S. Nationals dedicated to the troops who receive the mail. And, on the car is a picture of a soldier reading his mail in the war zone.

"Our goal is to keep the momentum going and exceed the 90,000 number of cards we delivered to the troops in 2007. We project that MTS will deliver over 100,000 cards by the end of 2008."

To help achieve this goal, Mail Terminal Services is holding a competition among its 17 terminals around the U.S. to collect the highest number of cards. The winning terminal will be determined after the Richmond, Va., NHRA event (Oct. 10-12) and will have the privilege of sending two representatives to the Las Vegas event (Oct. 31-Nov. 2) for a four-day working vacation on MTS. They will man the U.S. Army kiosk and watch the races, and will be treated to a stay at a casino hotel and a show.

"The success of the Mail from Home program," added Comstock, "is the result of the dedication of the 1100-plus employees of Mail Terminal Services in supporting our partners at DHL Global Mail, the United States Postal Service and all of their customers at home and overseas."

"We've enjoyed tremendous racing success through our technical partnership with all of the Don Schumacher Racing teams, including wins by the Valvoline/MTS Funny Car." said John Stotz, Director of Global Brands for Valvoline. "We're proud to further support the MTS at-the-track correspondence campaign and our troops abroad with a special paint scheme on Jack Beckman's Funny Car during the U.S. Nationals.

"We at Don Schumacher Racing are privileged to be a part of this wonderful program that Mail Terminal Services has introduced to our team and NHRA," said team owner Don Schumacher. "We heartily support MTS's efforts in this extremely rewarding endeavor."

BECKMAN GAINS POINTS IN GAINESVILLE, FINISHES IN QUARTERS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 16, 2008) - "Fast" Jack Beckman, driver of the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T, is just six points out of the Funny Car lead in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series after three events so far, following his quarterfinal finish today at the NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway. No. 1 in the standings, Robert Hight, was eliminated in the opening round.

The Frank Hawley Drag Racing School instructor first defeated his "boss" Frank Hawley in the first stanza, with a very close 4.866-second pass at 320.66 mph to Hawley's 4.898/321.04, then fell to Tim Wilkerson in the second round after posting a 4.957/307.09 to Wilkerson's winning 4.848/322.34. Beckman had the edge on take-off, but was passed by his opponent at the 60-ft. mark.

"It wasn't a great weekend, but it was a good weekend," said Beckman, winner at the last event in Phoenix. "We qualified top half and we won a round again, and we just ran into a buzz saw in the second round named Tim Wilkerson.

"Really, we did everything we wanted to. The race track was hot, we set it up to run a low 4.90 (-second elapsed time). The only thing is it moved over a little bit and spun the tires.

"But, when Tim Wilkerson is running a 4.84, that's awful tough. We were third low (elapsed time) of the round. We took a calculated guess of what the track would hold and we got beat. No excuses. We're ready to go to Houston. Everybody on the Valvoline/MTS Dodge crew is upbeat and enthusiastic right now."

As for that race against Hawley, "Well, the interesting thing is I think the perception is that we were staring back and forth at each other and it's kind of like one of those Hollywood-ish deals," said Beckman. "The reality is, when you're strapped in one of these Dodge Chargers, it's like being in the back seat of a station wagon and the side windows are blacked out. You really can't see much next to you.

"It was a great race. We were together from start to finish, and the analogy I give is, I'm a little leaguer, I stepped up to the major leagues and Mickey Mantle came out of retirement and let me pitch to him. It's awesome. I have all the respect in the world for Frank. I thought it was great to go up against him, win, lose or draw. Obviously I'm happy we won, and I think he's going to be giving the rest of us full-time drivers fits the rest of the year.

"I haven't seen him yet. I have to make sure I still have a job."

Next up is the 21st annual NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas, March 28-30.

} BECKMAN CLAIMS NO. 6 IN GATORS QUALIFYNG
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 15, 2008) - After grabbing the No. 1 spot in the first of only two qualifying sessions today (due to Friday's rain-out of all pro qualifying) with a 4.847-second lap at 325.27 mph, Jack Beckman had to settle for No. 6 following the second and final round, when the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car overpowered the track. That final pass produced an 11.106/75.80 result.

"Let me tell you something," said Beckman, an instructor at Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School. "I would much rather be in the situation we were in today, sitting in the back of the Funny Car pairings in the last qualifying session, 95 percent sure you're going to be in the field, and be able to hop the car up and take a home-run shot for No. 1, than where we were in Phoenix coming up for the last session and not qualified, praying that whatever happens that the car gets into the show."

For the second straight 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series race, Friday's two qualifying sessions were rained out. In Phoenix, Beckman qualified in his final attempt, then went on to win the event.

"So, we actually had the luxury of being able to take a free shot at the race track and we had too much horsepower that last run," said Beckman, who failed to qualify here last year.

"But, I tell you, this is awesome. We qualified, we qualified top half and I've got Frank Hawley first round tomorrow. I would've never imagined 10 years ago when I went to work for him we'd get him out of retirement, get him back in a Funny Car, and I'd be in the other lane first round."

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 24, 2008) - Piloting the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car, Jack Beckman captured his first Funny Car victory of the season today, the fourth of his career, and propelled himself into the No. 2 spot in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car point standings.

This was Beckman's sixth appearance in a final round since he joined Don Schumacher Racing for the last five races of 2006, and he now can boast a 2-0 round win record over his final-round opponent today, Robert Hight.

En route to the final, Beckman, suffering from the flu this weekend, posted three of four straight passes, winning first against John Force Racing driver Mike Neff with a 4.874-second elapsed time at 318.02 mph, then defeating his DSR teammate Gary Scelzi in the second round with another stout 4.884/320.20.

His only slip was in the semifinal against Jim Head, where he slowed to a 5.612/191.35 but still claimed the win. Co-crew chief Rick Cassel (with Tommy DeLago) attributed that blip to a "tuning error," which was duly undone for the final round.

The final match-up saw the popular cancer survivor face off against Pomona winner Robert Hight, also from the John Force Racing stable. Hight had the edge at the starting lights, a .066 reaction time (.000 is perfect) to Beckman's .090, but it was Beckman straight as an arrow and first at the finish line with another stellar 4.868/320.20 pass. Hight lost traction early, reaching the stripe in 8.030 seconds at 105.28 mph.

For the all-new Valvoline/MTS crew, assembled just weeks ago, this was a stunning victory.

"I went through chemotherapy," said Beckman of his illness, "so I get a flu shot now every year, but I guess the flu this year is immune to that shot. I'm living proof. We drove the motor home out here (from North Hills, Calif.) and I had to make an appearance on Wednesday. You get up in the morning and you just feel like hell. I'm thinking it will go away tomorrow and it didn't. And you look at the back of the cold medicine and it says 'do not operate heavy machinery.' I don't know if that counts as a Nitro Funny Car. I didn't want to take anything, but after the second round I finally had to take some Tylenol. It was just getting hot in that thing. I'm glad it wasn't a 95-degree day in the summer. We would have been in big trouble.

"Your head's kind of fuzzy all day long and we went out there and won the semis and I told (announcer) Alan Reinhart at the top end, Ooh, great, we're going to the semifinal. I couldn't even keep track of winning two or three rounds there. And it's a little bit surreal because of that, but more so because of what the crew was able to pull off on this deal.

"In the off season Jerry Toliver came on board as another Schumacher car and basically the Valvoline/MTS car started from scratch. We had an empty trailer, bare chassis and a crew that had never worked together as a group of nine. And they assembled everything, ordered new tools for it, re-stocked the trailer, put new motors together, so they hadn't torn a car apart as a team until we came here for the test session, and I think it was nice to get 12 runs here in the test session. My God, are they jelling now. Two races into it we've already gotten to the winner's circle."

As for the rest of the season, "I don't think there's a Funny Car driver or team owner here that would get arrogant or try to make any predictions for this year," Beckman said. "It's going to be a dog fight all year long. You've got 21 teams showing up for most of the races. Everybody who qualifies is tou

} JACK BECKMAN, MAIL TERMINAL SERVICES DODGE FUNNY CAR AT NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE WEDNESDAY IN LAS VEGAS
Jack Beckman and the Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car he drives in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series will be at the Nellis Air Force Base, outside of Las Vegas, known as the "Home of the Fighter Pilot," on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in advance of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Oct. 25-28.

A former Air Force sergeant and the defending ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals event champion, Beckman will be on hand to sign autographs alongside his car from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., while also visiting the wounded and injured airmen that day at the base hospital, something he has done for several years. Also on display will be the Kalitta Racing's Support Our Troops and Families Top Fuel car driven by Hillary Will, and the DHL-sponsored Funny Car of Scott Kalitta.

Kalitta Air works in partnership with DHL to fly the mail that is sorted and staged by Beckman's sponsor Mail Terminal Services to Bahrain for delivery in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.

Don Schumacher Racing and MTS, through its partnerships with the U.S. Post Office and DHL Globalmail, honor service personnel of a different war-zone camp in Iraq and Afghanistan at each of the 23 NHRA national events by displaying the camp name on the MTS Funny Car and distributing post cards signed by fans to the troops overseas through its highly-successful "Mail from Home" program.

"I'm excited," said Beckman, who is also an instructor at Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School in Pomona, Calif. "I love airplanes. I spent four years in the military. What we're doing this year is supporting the military through Mail Terminal Services as our sponsor. I think it's a good chance for the people at the base who may not be able to make it out to the race track to see what NHRA racers and teams are doing for military personnel. We're going to make some noise. I understand Kalitta is going to start up his car there.

"I'm just really excited to get to spend extra time with military people," added Beckman, two-time Funny Car winner this season. "I've got several friends on the base whom I have met during the hospital visits there. I'll probably take a couple of tours in the maintenance shop, which is very similar to what my job was in the Air Force (avionics), so I'll get a chance to relate to some of the soldiers who are probably 20 years younger. Hopefully we can sit down and talk for a while and maybe I can answer some questions and even give them some guidance."

Said Rodger Comstock, President and CEO of Mail Terminal Services, and an NHRA Super Comp racer himself, "Because of Jack's Air Force background and the fact that MTS stages 500,000 pounds of mail a day for the troops during the holidays, we accepted the invitation from DHL Express to do this. Jack usually visits the base hospital and sees the wounded and injured airmen, so this time he will be able to not only have the car on display, but make a visit to the hospital at the same time."

Beckman and the MTS Dodge will also appear at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, near San Diego, Calif., on Nov. 5, following the final NHRA national event of the 2007 season at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, Calif., Nov. 1-4.

"From our point of view," continued Comstock, "it's like the 'Mail From Home' program. It's a way of showing our appreciation to, in this case the Air Force and the Marine Corps, for all their efforts. We sort and stage the mail that goes to the Air Force and Marine Corps and having the opportunity to actually display the car at their bases is just a strong gesture of appreciation to them."

} MTS Employees Honored at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series
Written by Judy Stropus

This weekend Mail Terminal Services, sponsor of the Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car driven by Jack Beckman in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series, will recognize two of its employees from the Newark, N.J., Military Mail Terminal (MMT), a division of Mail Terminal Services which sorts and distributes up to 500,000 pounds of mail to war zones in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. Monique Walters and Jorge Santos will enjoy a unique U.S. Army team experience this weekend at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.

Ms. Walters and Mr. Santos will be flown to Pomona and treated to Don Schumacher Racing VIP hospitality tickets, full event passes for the weekend, and in one qualifying session four-time Top Fuel champion Schumacher will wear a specially-designed helmet which he will sign at the end of the run and present to them.

"It's important to recognize that Ms. Walters and Mr. Santos are just two of the top performing employees in the Military Mail Terminal," said Comstock. "There's another 130 who are out there putting out 500,000 pounds of mail a day into the war zones. These two people were selected by their supervisors and their peers as the two top performers and they represent the outstanding attitude and the focus that these people have. So, it's important for me and all of us at MTS to recognize their efforts as we continue to work towards the successful distribution of all the mail that goes into the war zones."

} MTS Recognized for Providing Outstanding Service from US Military

Rodger Comstock, President of MTS, was presented with an Outstanding Service Provider Award from the US Military.

This honorable award was the result of the hard work of the Newark (EWR) MTS Military Mail terminal team for processing all military parcel mail destined to war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. The award was presented by Robert Loken, CAPT (SEL) 0-6, USN.

MTS won the USPS contract to process all military parcel mail volume for Iraq and Afghanistan, on Sept. 27th, 2006. In 4 short weeks, the MTS team lead by Senior Manager Kirk Moore, secured a 150k sq. ft. facility, equipped it with a 200ft sorting and material handling conveyor.

The 24/7 operation, with the assistance of Com. Sgt. Javier Guadalupe and his US Army squad, along with USPS COP John Romano and his team, showed teamwork and cooperation at its best. DHLGM IT helped support our efforts by providing the terminal with a robust IT infrastructure. We would like to thank Dan Wilder and Ron Aucoin for their efforts in completing this monumental task ahead of schedule.

Human Resources, lead by Tania Seijo, EWR and Angelica Johnston, EWR MMT, staffed the terminal in 2 weeks, providing over 300 quality employees. They were instrumental in providing these employees with a quality orientation and training program, along with a safe work environment.

The operations management team of Kirk Moore and Brian Vasquez identified and trained team leads Nadiyah Williams, Kishell Alvarez, Maria Diaz, Cesar Huanan and Zembria (Chewy) Hawthorne to help process peak volumes in November and December. On peak day, the MTT team processed over 259,000 kilos or 571,000 lbs of mail. This equated to loading and unloading 130 - 53ft trailers and filling three full 747’s cargo aircraft.

MTS is lucky to have been given this opportunity and is proud to be able to support our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We thank the US Military and the USPS for allowing us this opportunity.
